The AI Agent Accountability Manifesto

The age of AI agents is not coming. It is here. The question is no longer whether your organization will run AI agents—it is whether anyone can account for what those agents do.

Across every industry, autonomous systems are reading documents, executing transactions, accessing databases, and making decisions—often faster than any human can review them. This is not a future risk to plan for. It is the operational reality of enterprises today, and it is accelerating.

Most organizations cannot account for it. The dirty secret of the agentic AI era is that the vast majority of enterprises deploying AI workflows have no unified view of what their agents are doing. They operate across multiple AI providers—OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft—each with its own controls, its own logs, its own blind spots. Policies exist as documents, or as prompt instructions that carry no enforcement weight. When something goes wrong, the investigation is a manual reconstruction from scattered logs that were never designed to answer the questions regulators, auditors, and customers are now asking.

What we believe

We believe that every AI agent action should be accountable—identifiable, governed by explicit policy, and traceable from intent to outcome. We believe organizations should be able to answer, in minutes rather than days, exactly what their agents did and why. We believe the security controls enterprises apply to their most sensitive human workflows deserve to apply, with equal rigor, to the autonomous systems they increasingly trust with those same workflows. And we believe this governance layer must work across every provider—because risk doesn't respect vendor boundaries.

We give agents identity. We enforce policy at the moment of action, not after the fact. We create the audit trail that makes every significant agent decision explainable and defensible.

Why it compounds

The enterprises that establish AI governance infrastructure today will have a structural advantage that compounds. Their security reviews will be faster. Their regulated customers will trust them more. Their AI incidents—and every organization will have them—will be resolved in minutes rather than escalated for days.

The enterprises that defer this work will discover, at the worst possible moment, that accountability is not something you can retrofit onto an AI environment that has already grown beyond your visibility. Lineation exists to make that moment preventable.

The governance layer for the agentic era is here. The only question is whether your organization has it.
