AI Research Engineer

Why Lineation

AI is no longer just generating content. It's writing code, invoking APIs, executing transactions, and making autonomous decisions inside enterprise environments.

As AI moves from prediction to execution, the challenge is no longer model capability - it's trust. Lineation is building the runtime governance platform that gives enterprises the visibility, identity, and policy enforcement needed to deploy autonomous AI safely at scale. Rather than securing static applications, we're building the infrastructure that allows autonomous software to operate with confidence.

If you enjoy solving difficult systems problems and building technology that defines an emerging category, we'd love to meet you.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an AI Research Engineer to help build the infrastructure that makes autonomous AI secure, observable, and production-ready.

This isn't a traditional machine learning research role. You won't spend your days training foundation models or publishing papers. Instead, you'll design and build the runtime systems that govern how autonomous agents reason, interact, and execute in enterprise environments.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll help transform emerging ideas into production software that enterprises rely on every day.

What You'll Build

Runtime Governance

Design systems that continuously evaluate agent behavior and enforce security policies during execution.

Agent Identity & Trust

Build frameworks that establish identity, permissions, and trust boundaries across autonomous agents, users, and enterprise systems.

AI Runtime Intelligence

Develop techniques for understanding execution paths, behavioral anomalies, and reasoning patterns across complex agent workflows.

High-Performance Infrastructure

Build low-latency, production-grade services that prioritize correctness, reliability, concurrency, and performance.

Production AI Platforms

Collaborate with platform engineers to turn advanced research into enterprise-ready capabilities that scale.

What You Bring

We're more interested in exceptional engineers than perfect resumes.

You'll likely bring many of the following:

  • 5+ years building production software in systems engineering, AI infrastructure, distributed systems, or machine learning platforms.
  • Strong systems programming experience in Rust or C++.
  • Experience building highly performant, concurrent, or distributed software.
  • Familiarity with modern AI runtimes such as PyTorch, Hugging Face, vLLM, ONNX Runtime, or similar technologies.
  • Experience designing APIs, runtime services, or infrastructure platforms.
  • Strong understanding of concurrency, memory management, networking, and software architecture.
  • Curiosity around LLMs, autonomous agents, inference systems, or AI runtime technologies.
  • A passion for solving difficult engineering problems through elegant software design.

Technologies You'll Work With

Our stack continues to evolve, but you'll regularly work with technologies including:

  • Rust (primary systems language)
  • C++
  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Kubernetes
  • AWS
  • Distributed systems
  • AI inference frameworks
  • REST & gRPC APIs
  • GitHub
  • CI/CD pipelines
